5 year old Gunwales!

Thought we show a little project we have done this winter.  About 5 years ago we build a prospecter in oz, since then it have been sat outside and has now work done to it. So its is time for some tlc.

varnishing is very gratifying, brings out the colour in the wood.

As you can see the Gunwales were a real mess, so they have been sanded down and varnished  have also stained the fixings, seats thwarts ect, looks quite good now, and remember this is 5 years old now and had been left out side and had now work done on it thus far. It has been painted on the outside as you can see, this was done as to protect is form the harsh uv sun they have in oz. 

So if you have built or thinking of building a canoe, try keeping it inside or at least out of the elements, and look after then Gunwales. 

Good to go for another 5 years!

Well its been another good year for orca, we have run 5 canoe building workshops, but now the weather is getting cold and the workshops have been packed up and Steve has headed of to warmer places.  Our web site has had a face lift and we will be concentrating solely on canoe building workshops for 2013, so keep and eye on the web site as dates (to come soon) as courses fill up fast.
Thnaks to all who built a canoe with us in 2012 and we hope they are doing well.

2011 has been a busy year so far building canoes. This summer we have ran 7 canoe building courses and helped build 35 canoes all of which floated.. Thanks so much to every one that has built a canoe with us this summer. 2012 canoe building workshops dates are about to be decided and will have them on the web page soon.  Also look out for a new self build canoe that you can build at home, currently in development, should be ready for 2012.
